Yaseen

Camp director

I've been coming to Camp Deen since I was 7 years old. As a camper Camp Deen helped me find my own voice, form my own Canadian-Muslim identity and develop my spirituality.

I have been a camp counsellor/director for 14 years, helping lead nature, mentor counsellors, and put on some goofy social hour skits.

Nothing makes me more proud than when a camper comes away from a week of Camp Deen with more confidence, a better sense of self, and more friends who they can relate to.

I'm beyond excited to help put on another great year of Camp Deen full of energy, spirituality and learning for our critical young generation of Canadian Muslims.

Salaams Camp Deen community. My name is Nadine Karachi-Estrada & I am proudly a part of this amazing project, Camp Deen.

I first attended camp in the 70’s, when I was 6 yo & recall feeling comforted in knowing that there were kids, just like me. Being Canadian & Muslim; feeling safe, proud & happy.

Over the years, my own kids, Ali & Anisa have joined Camp Deen as campers as well as in leadership roles. This is one of my proudest legacies. It’s a thrill for me to see our Directors & councillors develop during this intense week of love, friendship & Islam.

Every summer is a new experience. Every Camp Deen is unique.

I look forward to meeting our new crew of leaders this year as I work on the back end of things & keep ringing that bell!!!

Assalamu Alaikum!

I was fortunate to grow up going to Muslim camp since I was 7 years old.  It has always been the highlight of my year. My best friends are the ones I met at camp. We still keep in touch and share an incredible bond.  Alhamdulillah, my kids also grew up going to camp.

I'm the "Camp Mom" to the rest of the campers too.  It is such a privilege to watch young people grow up to become leaders at camp and in their community.

When you find a place where you are seen and loved then you have to share it with as many people as possible.

Known as “Uncle Murray” for decades at camp, I am an avid historian, outdoorsman and writer.

I used to volunteer in leading the canoeing program but now focus on arts and crafts. In recent years I have been working on incorporating leatherwork and ceramics into the arts program. My wife and I have sent our three children to camp, and now I bring my four grandchildren. I believe so strongly in the need for a moderate and safe Muslim camp experience for children and youths. I have been active with Muslim groups since 1959 and served as secretary to two of them.

I've been going to camp since I was 12. I have so many fond memories of friendships formed at camp while learning about the beautiful outdoors. I'm a father of four, and my kids love camp. They call it "the funnest week of the year". I'm also known as AdnanSportsMan, because I run sports and camp games at Camp.
